I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread where we could post pics that would look good as stencils. Personally, I'm horrible at picking them (and I'm probably not the only one). Anyways, it would be great if people could post some pics with great stenciling potential happy.gif

BOTH! biggrin.gif

Just 2 seconds in Photoshop and voila..
IPB Image

It'd would look better if the lines were cleaner, I think. can't be bothered to vectorize it though; takes an effort because there's more detail in this image. rolleyes.gif
ViktoriaLolo
Ok, first I start out by chosing a picture, (I find that pictures with less details in them come out better), then in photoshop, I usually select the main object and cutout the crap I don't want to be on the shirt(threshold comes out better). When I have a nice clean picture of what i want then I use threshold on it. and you can screw around with the options tilll you like it.

and for the shirt making instructions you can go to this website

antix: your stencils are totally awesome!

but one thing that confuses me about stencils is which part do you cut out? the black, or the white part?

Wonderful Stenciling Site

An alternative to silkscreening is stenciling with freezer paper or cardstock

I love freezer paper wub.gif

oh will smile.gif
quick question:
do you use spray paint or some special kind of ink?
ViktoriaLolo
^^^^I guess it depends on what your stenciling, if it's something other than fabric, I would use spray paint, but if it fabric defenetly use fabricpaint. I use a fabricpaint called Jacquard textile.

You don't really need photoshop.
I've used this thing call irfan view.
You just download it and you can easily change a picture to just black and white.
The sites just http://www.irfanview.com/.
Hope that helps.

^ i just downloaded that program, but I have absolutely no clue how to turn a pic to black and white. Can you help me out?

i want to make a stencil but it seems abit hard

i mean how do u get such small details like eyes and hair to come out so awesome???

and is the silk screen way, or the cut of stencial easier?

also where do u buy freezer paper and how do u print on it
arcadian_dream
^ I used to make my stencils using the program 'paint'. I'd get a picture, and click 'save as' then change the part that says 'save type as' to 'MONOCHROME BITMAP' and it'll turn black and white. It doesn't always work though. Not all the details show.

Anyways, I print out the picture on regular printer paper, and then I paperclip it to a sheet of transparency [clear overhead paper] I then use an exacto-knife to cut out all the black parts

I've never tried the silk screen technique before.

I made a Pulp Fiction stencil a while ago, I'll try and post the picture of it, so you can get an idea of how the stencil turned out.

It was tough to do with a dark bottle and a black background. But now that you point it out, it kind of does. blush.gif
