Meaning of EVIL lyrics

Rosemary in my belief may be a fictional character but I found on one website that Rosemary in the song Evil is actually about Rosemary West, one of Great Britains most notoriest serial killers (Hence the song name EVIL). Just look at Evils lyrics. True, Interpol uses a lot of symbolism but this certainly provides enough evidence for me that he is writing about Rosemary West.

Look at some of the lyrics:

Rosemary
Heaven restores you in life

But hey who is on trial?

It took a lifespan
With no cellmate
The long way back

But hey who is on trial?

It took a lifespan
With no cellmate

Leave some shards under the belly
Lay some grease inside my hand
It's a sentimental jury
And the makings of a good plan

Oh heaven restores you in life
I spent a lifespan with no cellmate

If it actually refers to Rosemary West, the article says she's been sent to Durham prison, where Moors murderer Myra Hindley is jailed.
Nice coincidence since these 2 women inspired such glorious songs (yes i'm talking about "the hand that rocks the cradle" by the smiths)

It is amazingly similar, I tried to factor in all the lyrics.
Rosemary
Heaven restores you in life
Coming with me
Through the aging, the fear and the strife
It's the smiling on the package
It's the faces in the sand
It's the thought that holds you upwards
Embracing me with two hands
Write, we'll take you places
Yeah maybe to the beach
When your friends they do come crying
Tell them how your pleasure's set up on slow-release

Hey wait
Great smile
Sensitive to faith not
Denial
But hey whose on trial?

It took a life spent
With no cellmate
The long way back
Saying meanwhile can't we look the other way?

He speaks about travel
Yeah, we think about the land
We smile like all people
Feeling real tan
I can take you places
Do you need a new man?
Wipe the pollen from the faces
Make revision to a dream while you wait in the van

Hey wait
Great smile
Sensitive to faith not
Denial
But hey whose on trial?

It took a life spent
With no cellmate
Find a long way back
Saying meanwhile can't we look the other way?
You're weightless, you are exotic
You need something for which to care
Saying meanwhile can't we look the other way?

Leave some shards under the belly
Lay some grease inside my hand
It's a sentimental jury
And the makings of a good plan
You've come to love me nightly
Yeah you've come to hold me tight
Is this motion everlasting
Or do shutters pass in the night?

Rosemary
Oh heaven restores you in life
I spent a lifespan with no cellmate
The long way back
Saying meanwhile can't we look the other way?
You're weightless, semi-erotic
You need someone to take you there
Saying meanwhile can't we look the other way?
Why can't we just play the other game?
Why can't we just look the other way? ......

This could actually make sense
"Do you need a new man?
Wipe the pollen from the faces
Make revision to a dream while you wait in the van " Because her husband was involved. I dunno...

hum.. I am not convinced. There is nothing in that story that would tell me that Interpol wrote this song about that person. but it is an interesting theory, even if it's a little stretched in my opinion.

It was Fred West who was initially held to be responsible for the murders.
He committed suicide before trial, having made a confession in which he stated
his wife had nothing to do with the killings.

Geoffrey Wansell, whose book An Evil Love was written after he obtained exclusive access to 150 hours of Fred West's tapes and other documents, believes they cooked up a "pact". He says: "Frederick West would have told her that he would 'sort it out' with the police the following day, and that she 'had nothing to worry about' as he 'would take all the blame'."

Fred West murdered two people on his own, it is believed the next ten victims were murdered by the couple, both enjoyed torturing and murdering young people to spice up their otherwise dull existences.

The couple abducted hitchhikers "Make revision to a dream while you wait in the van"

evil = no specific meaning - abstract art form expressed in words

evil video = no specific meaning - abstract interpretation expressed in images

interpol lyrics = no specific meaning - subjective lyrics expressed in an album

objective conclusion = interpretation, not facts

The only other song I know of that mentions anyone named Rosemary is the Grateful Dead song "Rosemary"... It's a very psychedelic acoustic song with swirly effects played and sung through a Leslie Rotating Speaker Cabinet.

Other than that there was a movie called "Rosemary's Baby" which was pretty scary for it's time, lol...

Evil is a way cool song regardless of what the lyrics mean...
