ok. this was my 7th interpol show, and though i've loved every one of them, this show was by far my least favorite.
paul voice was fantastic, but seemed like he hated being there, playing in the day. the rest of the band played very well, but everyone but daniel seemed bored and annoyed.
my friend flew back to ny after the show, and paul is on her plane by himself. he didn't want to be here any longer than he had to, but the clearchannel slave driver must be fed, so he played the show.
they also didn't have their own gear (amps, typical for radio fly dates) so it didn't sound as good as usual, especially the carlos bass tone.
i'm convinced that interpol deliberately stunts their own growth, like when they made that horrible video for evil that mtv would never put into heavy rotation.
my opinion was validated by their choice of songs at this show.
the set list was a very strange, and bored everyone that wasn't already an interpol fan to tears.
they went out of their way to make sure that if you weren't already into them, you wouldn't be after this show.
it was obnoxious, but i love them for it.
fuck kroq. that station sold out long ago and interpol knows it.

if anyone cares about the rest of the day, just ask and i'll post it in the proper section.

Dude, it's a radio festival show. Of course they're gonna play the singles and stuff radio plays. And oftentimes people who aren't Interpol fans tell me they're boring live, but I understand what they're saying since they don't know all the songs. And I don't expect them to be the Foo Fighters or Audioslave live. I enjoyed their performance at Weenie Roast even if they didn't wanna be there. I enjoyed the whole night because there were so many bands I loved and wanted to check out.

I also went to the Weenie Roast. It did seem as though the band did not want to be there. I enjoyed thier performance anyway. I was so annoyed when the guy sitting in the row behind me turned and told his friend, "Of course they had to play Rosemary!" To which I turned around and said, "no my friend, the song is called Evil." I was just about the only one signing to all the songs while everyone just yawned.

I did not go, but I watched the whole webcast. It did look like they were annoyed, paul gave some dirty looks and they kept gesturing to people off stage. I think it probably was not one of the best shows for themselves but I still think they sounded good. Especially pauls voice, considering the last time I saw them live his voice sounded like one of the cartoon chipmunks. That was the only time his voice sounded like that and I have seen them live 6 times. Yeah I noticed the only time poeple really cheered was when they started to play slow hands. I started to cheer at home when hey played leif erikson.

I think it was partly due to the fact that the sun was still out, a little. it's fortunate for Interpol that they had shade. and they were the first band to come on stage and start using the lights. but still, people arne't that enthusiastic when it isnt completely dark at night. since every single band before innterpol, everyone was just sitting down. then for interpol, some people started to stand up.

the sound was horrible. whoever set up the sound and stage did a really bad job. the drum bass was way too deep, and I saw Sam gesture to an off stage sound guy to lower the bass down, and Sam looked pist. it was rumbling way too much, and it muffled all the other instrument sounds. also, during a couple songs, Carlos' bass got really rumbly too, all of a sudden. when i saw them at the grand olympic auditorium, the sound there was super clear and perfect. this was a huge difference.

however, i think people get really hyped, when its dark and of course cool, literally. cuz when the killers got on stage next, and it was, by that time, completely dark, all the lights were playing, and everyone in the stage stood up to watch them. i don't REALLY like the killers, but they're performance was damn good. but i think they had the definte advantage of being able to use the whole light show.

anyway, the bravery was dope. hot hot heat was good. i still liked interpol. killers were crazy. i dont like my chemical romance, but the lead singer is funny. jimmy eat world's set sound was WAY TOO SUPER DAMN LOUD, compared to all the other bands. anywya, it was dope being able to sit in ORCH 3. i got lucky the very last minute on the day of the show, and was able to get cheap orch tickets. JIGGA.

i expected them to play the singles at a radio show, it the choice of other songs that was bizzare.
i don't find interpol to boring live in any way. they are totally captivating, and the only reason i was there, but they deliberately played a slow strange set.

as for the other bands, qotsa killed everyone.
they put on the best radio show set i've ever seen.

eh, queens were ok. i only liked No One knows, and thats an old song. a lot of their songs sounded the same. but i blame that on the crappy muffled sound at the show.

QOTSA sounded really good actually. But maybe that's cuz I was in middle LOGE so the sound wasn't too loud. They tend to play songs in a different key which is cool. I didn't even know they were doing Monsters in the Parasol until I heard Josh sing the lyrics. Strange not seeing Mark Lanegan do SFTD. Jimmy Eat World's sounded just right to me. But again, that's cuz I was middle LOGE and the sound wasn't too loud nor too faint. After Motley Crue was done, I heard buncha people mentioning Audioslave as the best performance. And I was really surprised so many people were up from their seats for the Killers. I was one of the very few people standing for Jimmy Eat World, Interpol, and QOTSA. I did see some people in Orchestra far left standing up all thru Interpol's set.

Paul motioned for someone to lower the volume on his guitar or something. Carlos kept beckoning and guesturing to the sound guy and Sam... Sam looked real pissed during the middle of a song. I THINK it was Obstacle 1.
Dan didn't look like he had too much trouble. Besides his mike. That was so fucked up.

But yeah, anyways. I'm kinda disappointed that they weren't as great live as they appeared to be on the webcast. I guess sitting at home you don't really get a feed off the overall atmosphere.

carlos and maybe sam didnt look very amused, i'll put it on tech problems,
but paul seemed quite merry and relaxed, checking out the crowd a lot and all.

With the exception of Dan, the rest of the guys looked so pissed off. I would be, too. I was very suprised that they played Leif Erikson, only because it is rather slow. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE that song, but it just didn't suit the KROQ audience. They sounded better when they played Accustic Christmas in December.

I watched most of the show. I really liked Jimmy Eat World, the Dead 60's (they were on very early), Queens of the Stone Age, Audioslave, Interpol, and I hate to say it but the Killers. Brandon is so damn cocky and annoying, but they did an excellent performance.

no offence, but there's no way anyone there would have said paul was 'merry.'
relaxed yes, but merry...no.

I watched the webcast and I thought they got totally jipped. The cameraman couldn't for the life of him get the camera focused or hold it steady. After a few songs he finally got the hang of it, but then I started hearing the soundcheck for QOTSA coming through. Did anyone else notice that? I saw Sam get up and go over to someone at one point and after that I didn't hear it anymore so I don't know if he noticed it and got someone to fix it or what. I could tell they were annoyed with all the tech problems they were having. I wish they would stop doing KROQ shows.

unfortunately, in order to continue getting clearchannel airplay, interpol will have to do more kroq shows.
it's the nature of the beast.

I wasn't that lucky... I was in Loge 6. I saw a few people singing, but for the most part, the audience was rather comatose. Here is a view of the entire stage. :P

I did hear the QOTSA sound check come through. If I were the guys on stage and the next band's sound check kept coming through, I would be upset. I have watched the webcast in previous years and have been made dizzy with the unsteady camera.
