Early evening at Roskilde Festival, Denmark, in 2003. First day of the festival, the sun was shining and giving the most beautiful glare to the festival.
Read about Interpol in the program/booklet. They sounded like a very interesting band. Oh boy did they deliver! I've been a devoted Interpolian ever since.
Haven't missed a single show on danish soil, and I'm very much looking forward to see them again on the 8th. of march 2011.

In October '02, a best friend, who knew my musical taste well, told me about some band he read getting a lot of press and downloaded their album and extra tracks. Knowing I was a huge fan of post-punk/new wave and Joy Division, he's like "You'll love this band...singer sounds like Ian Curtis." He was going to burn me a copy of the cd he made, but when we were out, he just gave me his because he had the tracks on his computer anyway. He was not wrong, because he got me into a band that became one of my favorites.

Heard of them through a friend from another board but only really got into them in 2007, after snooping around a colleague's ipod that was in the office's shared network. Liked it a lot among many other bands. Then I saw the Heinrich Maneuver and then bought Antics and OLTA. I got TOTBL in San Francisco in 2008. The rest is history.

I first heard ABOUT Interpol during my high school years, while I was in the post-hardcore, screamo scene. All my friends looked down on indie, but the girlfriend drummer at the time, was into all types of music, and I remember once she mentioned them along with the strokes and other indie bands. I first listened to them at work, when one of my former co-workers played their ipod on the speakers, and i think it was "Slow Hands" that I first heard. Then, I started to check out other albums, OLTA, and I fell in love with them ever since ..

It's been awhile now. I think it was around '03 when I first heard Obstacle 1. My sister introduced them to me, and I haven't gone back since. At first, I wasn't a really hardcore fan, but I did love their music. I think it was around when Antics came out that I really started listening repeatedly. Over the years, my interest grew so much to make me into the huge Interpol fan I am today. They have been one of the greatest bands I have had ever the privilege of listening to.

Still totally into both of them.

I can't recall the exact moment when I first heard Interpol, but it was somewhere back in 2004 and Slow Hands made me fall in love quite immediatly.

I first heard Interpol while watching a skateboarding video from the company "Girl" entitled 'Yeah Right!" in the fall of 2004. The skater Brian Anderson used Obstacle 1 for his part of the film and I've been on the bandwagon ever since.

Obstacle 1 was the first Interpol song I ever heard. I remember being really wowed by the bass guitar and drums. I always love bands with a strong rhythm section.

I am pretty sure that in hindsight the first song I ever heard was Slow Hands but I was in my car and didn't know the band, but the first time I knew who they were....

My wife and I just bought a new house and I was tasked with painting nearly all of the interior. I remember clearly a nice, brisk Minnesota spring day of which I had many windows open, a few cold ones in the fridge and feeling extremely joyous. I had the local public radio station (89.3 The Current) playing on the stereo and The New came on. I actually stopped painting about 15 seconds into the song thinking, "Hmm, who is this?" and, "This sounds like it will be pretty cool". Weird because the song doesn't have the most dynamic start but for whatever reason I was really drawn to it.

When the song was over I put my brush down and called the station to ask who the band was. They told me, so I grabbed my keys and drove to Down in the Valley (local independent record store) to buy the record. They only had Antics on hand, but I bought it and also asked them to order TOTBL for me. By the time I was done painting the house I think I knew every word to every song of Antics and I was hooked for life.

Even though we have since bought another house, I so very often equate hearing them with the pure joy I felt that day as well as the later exploration of TOTBL once it came to be in my possession. I might only have 1 or 2 other musical epiphanies (sp?) that could equate with my introduction to Interpol.

I first listened to Interpol in late 2002 - someone was asking for new, hot music on another board and I remember two bands were recommended by a couple of people: Interpol and McLusky (never really listended to the latter). I listened to Interpol and liked it in general, but *cough* didn't like Paul's voice *cough* -_-
Nevertheless, their music/his voice had something haunting.

Seeing the first photo of the band and finding out who was the singer was quite a surprise (if not to say a shock...) Based on his voice I had a completely different picture in my head!
Some time later I saw an early interview with Paul - at that time he looked neither hot nor cute, just a pale, very young looking guy. But he talked quite a lot and he was so earnest and polite - I was totally impressed! I guess I'm a Paul girl ever since. :wub:

I had a similar reaction, however I instantly liked Paul's voice. I had TOTBL & loved it but never bothered to check out the band until the Antics release hype. When I first saw a group picture, I just assumed Sam was the vocalist. I associated Paul's deep voice with Sam's dark hair, mature, tall presence. I was really surprised to find Paul the singer. That voice came out of that baby-faced kid?

same here Stella, Pearl Jam will always be my all time favourite band no matter what, and Eddie Vedder my favourite man :wub:

It's kinda funny but I first saw a picture of Interpol months later after I got into them, I didn't even know their names! (I bought both totbl and antics in 2006 I think). I loved Pauls voice instantly but I had the same WTF? reaction when I discovered he looked totally different from the image I had of him. Good surprise tho :P

I actually remember the exact moment i heard them for the first time. It was the second half of Evil on MTV2 (When it was still showing in Israel). I Was on vacation with my Ex then, and it was like 2-3 AM and the TV was on in our motel room :P. Weird. I remember obsessing about what the hell was this song all the way back home..

First of all, sorry for my crappy English.

I remember the first time I heard them because it was when they opened for Pearl Jam in Dusseldorf (June 2007). I came from Paris to see Pearl Jam and I really don't care what the other band was. I'm a huge fan of PJ and travel a lot to see them live.

When they start playing, I immediately loved Paul's voice (I have something with voices) and their music get me in a strange and exciting mood. I was also surprised by the outfits and classy style. Well, I wanted to learn more on that "strange" band and bought OLTA first because It was just released and loved it. So, I bought TOTBL and Antics and that's how I get addicted to Interpol.

I've seen them live in Lille (North of France, were I live now) last September. Show was really really great with perfect sound.
2 weeks ago in Antwerp, sound was crappy sometimes and the band seems to be tired, but however show was good because it's always good to see them live.
Now I'm wandering how long I will have to wait to see them live again!

I've stopped trying to place a voice to a face. Obviously my brain keeps miscalculating and keeping my surprised reaction to myself is extremely hard!

I think 2 years ago, or even more... Anyway, I saw Not I In Threesome and thought it's ok, because it sounded to me somehow different and unique. Then I tried to like them listening stuff on YT about 1 year ago. I liked only C'mere. I thought they are boring and that every their song is completely the same.
And then I gave them one more chance, liked about 5 or 6 songs. And one more... And now I really like them, don't know how much songs I like, which means it's a lot. :D

The first song I heard was PDA. It was on KROQ, a radio staion in Los Angeles. Paul's unique vocals and the fun lyrics caught my attention. This was back in 2003.

Third. Similar story, since it was in Girl Yeah Right that I first heard it, however I never really knew it was from Interpol until I met this girl who really dug them. I was randomly watching the video again (same time I was friends with this girl) and this time I wanted to find out who the artist was. When I found out I was like!!!!!! So this is why that girl loves this band so much, and it all clicked, ALL.
