I know this thread has been done in the past, so I thought I would resurrect it.
For me, my friend Elena told me about them and lent me her CD before I saw them at Inland Invasion 2003. Ever since, i've been hooked. :D

It was 2001. Took note of the name, and then got ahold of the Matador EP July 2002. Bought TOTBL in October 2002.

I first heard interpol in...2002? oh christ, that was awhile ago.
I don't really have an interpol story. Well i do, but it's really quite silly.
I was in wild, wild love with the barista at the starbucks in the grocery store by my house(I live in washington. There are between 3 and 84309584 starbucks locations in every building in the entire state. No honestly-from my house alone i can walk to four different ones.), and he reccomended i check out interpol. I went home, listened to Specialist x43536342454 times(another approximation) and then bought TOTBL.
Aw, now i'm all nostalgic.

Also!!! It was around the time that this was in SPIN:
(I remember because it's still on my wall & and absolutely gorgeous picture)

Late June 2003, on a camping trip. My sister and I drove around a bunch in our mom's nice car while we were there just listening to music. Scanning her CD collection, I found Interpol's "Turn on the Bright Lights" and asked about it because I had never seen it before. She said they were really good and pretty new so I started listening to them and got HOOKED. For like, 3 months. Then I sort of, abandoned them and forgot about Interpol and just how great they were until like September this year when I heard "Slow Hands" and remembered how much I liked them and how great they were and how I needed to buy "Antics". So I did and I will never regret it or re-discovering Interpol.

I got into them like March 2003, so long ago. My friend Mimi was really into them and wanted to win tickets to see a private concert in San Francisco of them. So to win tickets you had to listen to PDA to play. i admit i hated PDA at first but after we saw them (didn't win but got tickets off these msg boards) I was like OMFG I'm in love. And i've been in love ever since. They were exactly what i was looking for. And they broke the gates to so many other bands that i love them even more.

I heard of Interpol some time back last year but only got round to checking them out a few months ago. I first saw the PDA video on Launch Yahoo. I liked the song and found out about this official website.
I finally got TOTBL and Antics together on 21st October 2004. Love them.

"You Hear It First" on MTV, probably around Sept. 2002. Remember just seeing 4 guys in dark suits walking around new york city in august, and, either gideon yago or sway, saying that one of the band members was a student at NYU when he started the band. And they played a few seconds of some of their songs. and I was intrigued.

I can't remember what the context was, but I heard "The Specialist" first and really loved it and ended up buying TOTBL, which evidently didn't have the song on it, which I didn't know at the time.

my little sister's birthday two years ago... in the car on the way home, she put it on the stereo and i heard NYC and well, that was the end for me. i was in love from there on out. i'll never forget the first time i heard stella, sitting in this little garden on 72nd street. i knew it was magic right then.

When TOTBL came out I remember hearing PDA on a Tower Records commercial, they had a small clip of the video

Somewhere in autumn 2003. I've actually had their single "obstacle 2", but I never paid any attention to that single.
After I listened to it time after time, then I realized that obstacle 2 was awesome (it's still awesome though).
Since then...i became a huge fan of Interpol :)

I wanted to listen to some of the bands that were going to be playing Curiosa, so I download SHTTA, and listened to more from there on. I was hooked, needless to say.

I was driving from school when I heard Obstacle1 on the radio. I wasn't a big fan of them before, but I liked the song so much. Then a few months later I heard it again, so I decided to download the song as well as other Interpol songs. I was instantly hooked!

Christmas Eve 2002. I had asked my brother to get me the record and I put it in while I was having a chat with my dad in the living room.
He did tolerate "untitled" but "ob1" made him go "errr..." and he put that face up when you really really really have to go to the bathroom.
So I turned it off.

Had liked what I heard up to that point though... ;)

It was a long time ago, I was recommended them by a friend in the US. Saying that, I don't remember the exact first time I heard Interpol, but I do remember being completely blown away from listening to TOTBL. I really was very impressed, and that album has yet to fail me.

In 2002 I worked for a magazine and I had to scan all the pictures for the program. and there was this picture of INTERPOL and I thought "these guys look really smart in their suits". a few weeks later my boyfriend bought the record and showed it to me, he said that he especially likes the title "stella was a dRiver" but that he does not get the meaning of it...and I had to tell him that stella was a DIVER, not a driver, haha. that's why she was always down!
that day I listened to the record and I liked it immediately.
