I know you are still working on the "new" IMB after that messy update, but I'd like to ask you about some problems that I still have. maybe you did not notice or you just can't get rid of them.

Very often I get that message when I try to post something:

[#20310] Your secure key, used to verify you are posting the topic, did not match the one submitted. Please go back, reload the form, and try again.

Then I can copy the text but it is full of <br> codes that I have to clean up again.

when I try to log out I get a message saying that I do not have the permission to do so. Not always, but often.

I still can't upload a user picture but I can update the avatar

And one little thing that's really annoying: there is this tiny arrow at the right of every thread and next to it the time of the last post. If I press the time I always get to the first post of the thread not to the last. If you press the arrow you get to the last post. Any chance you can change that? I am still used to get to the last post if press the words "last post" ;-)

thanks

First of all I do apologise for the board still being stuck at the "temporary" phase, but we thought things would be easier. The problem is that the guy that performed the upgrade is the only one with access to the IPB account and I guess he was one-off paid by the management, then disappeared as his job was done. We have of course access to the layout but other than very basic templates (like the ones we tested and this current one as well), its quite tough to customise a decent layout as we dont have access to the proper editor (just imagine something like MySpace where you can customise your own page but you're limited in that). The plan was to create a multi-skins layout so that members could pick what they think its the most decent layout. We're still slowly working on it

I noticed that error message too but it usually appears when I started a reply in a thread or a PM, then stop writing for a while and come back to it after over 10 mins. And though technically I'm still logged in, it seems to do so as if my time to reply to that thread ran out. Is that what happens to you? How often does it occur? Does anybody else experience something similar?

The "log out" thing has never happened to me and I'd like to know if someone else other than you has that to see if its a common thing or just occasional. What I noticed (and it buggers me) is that I used to be able to stay logged in for days and days even if I turned off the computer etc (like on facebook or gmail) whereas now every time I turn off my computer or if I dont come here for a few hours , I'll have to re-log in again. Which is annoying especially when you get a PM and you'd like to click on the link on your email and just be linked to the PM straightway like it used to be. I asked about that and apparently its just a new default of the upgraded version...

Same problem for the picture. Everybody can upload avatar and signature but nobody can upload a profile picture. I tried editing the specifications on the admin control panel etc a few times with no result....till desperate I asked and again it seems to be a general problem with this new version. the profile picture (the way its now facebook style) is a new feature but apparently this new IP version still hasnt fixed this problem and I'm afraid we'll have to wait for the new version which is not ready yet...

So basically as you can see, though the upgrade was mainly necessary as people couldnt register anymore (problem now solved), and the new version has very nice features and everything, it also has a lot of little issues that dont seem to be fixable at least not by us who only have a limited access to the whole system. You know me so you should imagine how frustrating all this is for me and the others as well!!

I'll now look into the last problem you mentioned and will try to get back to you a bit later

Hmm, I just checked the arrow thing and though I remembered having the same thing a while ago, it now takes me to the very last post if I click on the arrow, to the last read if I click on the time and to the first post if I click on the name of the thread. Are you talking about the main index or the a subforum (for instance the articles page etc)?

As I said it'd be interesting to have other people's feedback as well. Some members contacted me about issues they only seemed to have and we found out it was just their own computer problem and either they had to refresh their bookmarks-cookies or simply edited their profile etc. I'm not saying thats the case, but I'd be very happy if other people told us if they experience any of the above issues (other than the profile picture which once again we're really sorry but its a general problem that cant be fixed for the time being)

I've had the error message, too. Next time it happens I'll try to take note of the circumstances.

Yeah, thats really annoying but at least its understandable as to me it only happens when I leave the page open with no action for a long while. But it seems that rose_mary has it more often and for other reasons too, which its even more annoying

Thanks for the reply :)
It also happens if just start writing a few sentences very quick. And it happens on my computer at home and at work. Will have an eye on the log out thing to describe it better. I can keep signed in, just if I try to post something it kicks me out somehow.Good that I don't post that much haha.

And it happened again right now. I just logged in and did not spend much time writing this. argh.

oh and the last post thing now works for me too. I swear it did not before!

Hmm, thats very weird. As I said it keeps me logged in when it happens to me, but its just something that mainly occurs in the PMs and only if I leave the page open without writing for at least 10 minutes. Has it always happened, I mean since the update or is it a more recent thing? Do you use safari?
Try this: delete the forum from your bookmarks, delete all the history of your web browser and then log in again, and maybe it will happen less often or only if you stop writing and leave the page open for a long while which is not ideal but less annoying. I know it sounds silly but some other issues were fixed this way

I'm glad the arrow thing is now sorted

I only have problems with the last post thing (it always goes to the first post) and the log out thing (today I had to log in a thousand times).

OK I added and changed a few settings. I think from now we should stay logged in even if we quit the browser or switch off the computer like it used to be. At least it does seem to work for me and I tried a few times. But like Facebook we'll still have to log in again after a few days of inactivity here. Please let me know if anything has changed for you guys as this is just a trial and like it has happened before the board doesnt necessarily respond when I change settings (for instance the profile picture which according to the Admin Control Panel seems to be fine but then none of us can upload anything!!!). In this case I had to add one setting since, as I said yesterday, I was told this was the new version default......

I also made the Session Expiration longer. its now set to 2000 seconds which is a long time. I cant make it any longer for security reason. This means that you shouldnt be kicked out while writing even if you stop any activity for a few minutes. Rose_mary, it was set to 1200 seconds earlier which I understand was longer than it allowed you to stay logged in....so I'm not sure that was your problem. Let me know if anything has changed now

Hazey Jane, are you talking about the "arrow" rose_mary was talking about? Also on the main index or the a subforum (for instance the articles page etc)? As I said it should take you to the very last post if you click on the arrow, to the last read if you click on the time and to the first post if you click on the name of the thread. Let me know if this doesnt happen to you. Occasionally it doesnt to me but only once every 30 something times, which means its simply a system error

Yes, I use Safari at home. I'll delete my bookmark and such stuff to try if it helps.

Although it happened here at work too, I don't have a bookmark here and I don't keep logged in because we share the computer.

Thanks.

As I said above I just added/changed a few settings so hopefully you should notice the difference on your laptop at home. Please let me know, OK?

I always click on the thread's name. I'll try to click on this arrow thing and see what happens.

There is another thing I'd like to ask for. Before the update links were opened in a new window, now they open in the same one.
Do you have any chance to let them open in a new window again? I think it is easier if you keep the page open you came from, if you know what I mean.

I know what you mean. I'll try to look into it later
