Got this in my inbox from Stereogum:
Magnetic Morning - "At A Crossroads, Passive"
Magnetic Morning is the project of Interpol drummer Sam Fogarino and Swervedriver frontman Adam Franklin. The duo's previously put out a self-titled six-song EP and recently completed their debut LP A.M. in Athens, GA with the help of the Album Leaf's Jimmy LaVelle, among others. In this week's 'Gum Drop we're premiering epic, downcast, fresh-from-the-studio "At A Crossroads, Passive." We asked Adam and Sam for their thoughts on the track.
What inspired the "At A Crossroads, Passive"'s narrative? Feels apocalyptic -- not just the noisy guitars, etc., but the ash, the devastation, etc.
ADAM FRANKLIN: Hmmm, I hadn't thought of it as being apocalyptic but I hear it now. To me it's something about walking further and further beyond where you or anyone else has gone before, a bit like one of those driving video games where instead of sticking to the track you head off through the fields and woods to the very perimeter of what's there. The noisy middle section is definitely the journey deep into alien terrain and I think I can hear some dinosaurs off in the distance...
If you arrive at a crossroad and don't move, what happens?
SAM FOGARINO: Inertia sets in, and when that happens, you might morph into a Republican.
///
A.M. is out 10/21 via Friend Or Faux. You can hear more Magnetic Morning at their MySpace.
...
Included in the email is a complimentary download of "At A Crossroads, Passive" -- you might be able to get it through this link, but it may also say you need to subscribe to the newsletter in order to download it..
