or maybe it may give us a hint on the other actors' performances

lol no really, i love him and everything but in his movie he's rather embarassing, and after studying (against my will) theater for many years i dont really believe in miraculous improvement in acting. but after all, if he's happy, i guess it's all that matters. even though i was rooting for him and his scoring dreams, i think he had potential in that (the music in mftay is actually good)

I don't think his acting was really all that bad, just that character was not particularly a stretch for him haha

I can't comment on whether he's a good actor or not. I really don't have anything to base it on. BUT, honestly, does drama seem like such a big stretch for Carlos? :P

Oh come on...Carlos was not that bad. And in Carlos' defense, that film was shot in one day while Pol was in Chicago for Lollapalooza back in 2007.

As a fan of Carlos, I only wish the dude the very best. Of course I would much prefer for Carlos to still remain in Interpol and continuing to play bass & keyboards (which he is excellent at), however if acting is what makes him happy, who are we to judge? Theatre is much different than film anyways and if the dots connect and Carlos is indeed doing experimental theatre, it may just be Carlos' forte.

I hope Carlos follow through on his composing. For someone who started out about three years ago doing film and commercial work, Carlos already has some nice things added to his CV. I really hope he continues.

Thing is "arty" people normally have a natural flair for acting, I think with a few performances under his belt he's going to do alright.

From D's website:

'Since leaving the band, Carlos Dengler has not been active in the music scene, committing his energies to the theater instead, for which he is currently in studio training as a stage actor.'

Interesting.

Haa. Seems like that's working out real well for him. Carlos D is probably one of the better modern bassists that I've heard, but I feel like the band seems happier without him.

He looks good. Hopefully he's happy, because his former bandmates sure did seem happy on this past tour -_-
Okay, back to screencapping Paul.

Thanks!

It's from some theatre production called "A Favor" with Kerry Garvin, Carlos Dengler and Mark Parker.

I just don't get why he would leave something so special as Interpol to be just one of thousands of Off-B'way actors. Whatever

I'd venture to guess that he felt stiffled in the genre. He lived it up for TOTBL and Antics. OLTA wasn`t as satisfying as he'd wished but pushed through to ST and abandonned when it came time to put the peddle to the metal. Although the entire process of creating an album is gruesome and extremely demanding on your mind, touring is grueling on your body and spirit.

I don`t want to show false empathy for a person I don`t particularly care for, but he got what he wanted out of it and now he's done.

I get the impression that his perspective on the whole thing changed. It always kind of seemed like he was off in his own world (who can forget the Depeche Mode headphones?). He made a strong impression as a part of Interpol, but I think he always saw that as Carlos--not as Interpol. Not sure if I'm making myself clear. I realize a lot of this is speculation from observation, but there you go.

I had a whole other thing written here about OLTA, but my cat decided that I shouldn't post it and I don't have the energy to recreate it.

To me, it's about finding oneself and acting is his way. The goth or western dandy style could be seen as personas already. A hint towards acting. With the band, he quit the musicbusiness completely, so making music on his own or to his very liking was not his aim. Now he goes for the full goal: to act as an actor, which seems to gratify him for he looks peaceful.

I think that's a fair assessment.

I remember reading one of Sam's interviews where he said that Carlos would have stayed with the band making music for the albums as long as he didn't have to go on tour. Carlos didn't want to tour. Also, Carlos didn't want to be far apart from Gaius too long. Aww. He loves Gaius too much.

Yes, that's an odd perspective. If he really wanted to make music, he would've put up with the circumstances of touring, wouldn't he? Because making music is about playing live. That's an essential part of it. An experience that lives deep down at the bottom of a musician's heart, I believe, and within my heart as a listener. ;)
I'm really curious how Interpol will sound without him. Exciting times ahead.

I don't know about that. I have my own spin on why he decided to quit music, but I won't go into it. Just hope he's ok financially (I don't know how actors and musicians do it these days in making ends meet).

According to Playbill, this is a reading, not a full stage production. I may just check this out since I will be in the area that week and it's for a good cause.

Props to obstaclespecialist for the the heads up on this; major sluething there!
