In the recent interview posted by tercat:
http://www.billboard...t_id=1003786976

Sam says OLTA was a creative turning point for the band,

my question is:
Do you think Interpol will write music similar to TOTBL or Antics, or music that derives from OLTA?

any thoughts??

It's going to be the greatest album of all time.

Here we go again. I know anticipation is a good thing, but maybe it won't sound like any of their previous efforts.

I just hope it's dark and I can actually dance to it. I hate that I can't dance to OLTA.

You know, I think in that little statement you've nailed the whole problem with OLTA. I like a lot of the songs, but that driving thing isn't there in most of them.

I'm slightly curious about what they'll do next. I'm definitely going to download the album whenever it comes out and give it a listen. But I'm not buying any new Interpol stuff, that's for damn sure.

Why? I mean, what if it's great? Or are your reasons more economic?

True. I'd buy it if it turned out to be great, but OLTA totally ruined my faith in them.

I'll buy it, and a shirt; but I hope they know that the cool kids liked TOTBL.

I hope they get back to an older sound--maybe with some updated twist (what that would be, I dunno). Even now, I still love the lonely, dark feel of some of the songs on TOTBL, especially during my long lonely commute to work (at night) as I travel on dark side-streets before reaching the freeway.

On OLTA the classical music touches are OK (here and there), but the main song must be good to start with. I have a tendency to lean toward darker, sadder, or even angry songs (minor chords). Just like Stella216, I think more songs w/good beats would be great, but I had said this before: The rhythm section was lacking on OLTA (calling you out, Carlos and Sam!), I hope the bass and drums are more prominent on the next album.

But I've never been one to just run out and buy anything as soon as it comes out. I have to read reviews, talk to people, listen to samples, sniff it, fondle it, ponder it overnight. Then maybe the next day I'll decide it's worth paying for.

Judging by Carlos' Kid A/Amnesiac quote from (I think?) the Spin interview I think the next one will be rather different. I don't think that necessarily means they are going to go electronic like Radiohead (its a possibility though) but I think the new record is going to be a rather large diversion from their first three albums. Personally, I want a disintegration like epic album with eight minute tracks that is dark as hell and with them always talking about the use of keyboards going up I guess it is kind of a possibility as well (but very unlikely).

i'm going to buy the album no matter what because there is no way i will be able to hear people talk about it before i can. i have faith in my boys, they just need to be not so serious about it.
