^3 up. Ha! How rock'n'roll.

I work out everyday: five days a week at the gym for about an hour, and then weekends go hiking or cycling if the weather is good enough. I do something different each day, sometimes strength training, sometimes swimming, sometimes rowing, sometimes treadmill, sometimes lifting weights. I'd like to try spinning and ballroom dancing.

I had a personal trainer for the first half of this year, but I've stopped for now, I still have a few hours of credit with him so I think I'll work out with him again maybe around Christmas time, before going on vacation.

I loved having a trainer, he really pushed me and gave me a lot of confidence. He's shown me how important it is to try different things and how you really don't need those gym machines to be fit. He also made me realize how physically strong I really am, made me feel proud. I  him.

I used to be able to maintain my body shape and weight without too much trouble but after 40.... it's absolutely completely necessary for me, no excuses.

As for food, I try to eat good, homemade food. Nothing processed. Stop eating as soon as I feel satisfied -- that's something I had to learn to do and it's really made a difference. During the week I eat a lot of salads, fruit and yogurt, on the weekend I relax a little. I like wine and beer, I'll drink that maybe a couple of times a week. Also I'm not above having a piece of cake or a hot dog if I really feel like it.

Damn, Tralac. That is so kick ass! In fact, I bet you could kick mine.
You inspire me to push myself a little harder. I'm amping my walks up to an hour a day. I'd like a fitness trainer, but I imagine that's way too expensive. I wish I didn't get out of breath so easily when I attempt jogging. Which doesn't make sense to me since I quit smoking 9 months ago.

I'm hoping in time, i'll build my strength up enough to switch to jogging. I turn into huff & puff daddy after two laps around the track.

Anyway, You are absolutely right about having to work extra hard after a certain age. It may seem vain or ridiculous to people, especially if you're already fit, but can't afford to slack up after 30~

hmm I take a weight training class at school for PE credit. but the problem with me is that I either scarf down everything around me or dont eat at all (been on a red-bull ciggarette diet last couple days).

You don't drink milk at all?

You should. A lot. Be like David Bowie. And have strong bones.

As much as I would love to emulate David Bowie, I just hate milk. Blech. The only time I have it is in cereal and even then, I put one or two teeny splashes in it. And I always use fat free milk, which is basically water anyway. Gross...

^ My mother is the same way. The thought or sight of milk makes her nauseous. I actually love milk immensely. We've been drinking the organic stuff here and go through a gallon a day.

organic milk is amazing. It's expensive, though, so we only buy it when we make yogurt.

A friend of mine says that if you drink organic milk for a long time without drinking the regular kind, you can really taste the difference between the two. She had drunk organic milk for two months and then tried some regular, and she said that the regular kind had a vague taste of nail polish remover. Oh, the world today... haha.

I'm exactly the same. I just lounge about thinking I should be working. Technically I am because I've usually got the Guradian in front of my face. That counts as a journalism student.

I misread that and though for a second that you were trying to pass off reading The Guardian as exercise.

^ Are you taking it internally or applying topically? If it's a regular vitamin E gel capsule, you could use it both ways. It's a powerful anti-oxidant which combats all forms of diseases and cancers. Also, acts as a shield against the environment pollutants full of aggressive free radicals that attach themselves to your skin cells and cause premature aging.

so, yeah... you could say it's a good thing.

i bought the gel capsules, so you're saying i could pop one and apply it directly to my skin as well?

^ Technically you could, depends on your skin type. If you wanna pop it and put a dab in whatever moisturizer you use, could probably do it. What would be better is to look for a daycream with both UVA & UVB sunscreens and a blend of vitamins A, C, & E for maximum protection.

^ I should buy that Vitamin E too, oral form though. I realized after reading this thread that I don't drink enough water everyday and that's maybe one factor of my acne. Plus I could get rid of these 6 pounds with no exercize if I drank properly.

One question, I heard that after taking vitamins for a long time, when you stop you feel much more tired and unergized than you felt before taking the Vits. Anyone ever observed this phenomenon?

I'm so glad these threads are there. I'm writing every thing down.

I also read that we shouldn't starve ourselves or skip meals coz our body just grabs every once of fat it is presented to later. So careful with the fasting.

^ It's true.

Eating meals every two hours that have poor calorie content, but high in protiens is the best way to keep metabolism going. Also drinking cold ice water spikes your metab, as well as drinking tons of green tea.

I'm looking into flushing out my system. Detox. Perhaps wheatgrass is the best way? Still investigating but I'll drink piss if it makes me live longer.

that's true our bodies are designed to take care of themselves, so when you fast your body thinks that you are literaly starving, therefore when you do start eating it feels the need to store every bit of fat that it can, just incase it goes into "starving" mode again.

Right, that's why people who gain weight after diet say that they gained sometimes more than they actually lost in the first place. Awful vicious circle!!!

i heard Detox is a load of bull, which makes sense because the human body replenishes itself.

^ Ya, I was doing some more reading up on it, and not so sure I feel like fasting for three days. I know there are some herbal detox teas and I think I shall do that route.

on a side note; Just researching the benefits of salmon and that seems to be the magic elixir. I'm not fond of this fish, but with all the hype surrounding it being the ultimate cure-all. Hmm..

Though, it seems it's mostly because of the omega 3 fatty acids. Makes sense.
the olay multi-vitamin pack I take daily (total effects 7x) contains all this fish in the ingredients. Cod, Husk, Flounder, Haddock, Hake, Pollock, Redfish, and Sole.
I also have a flaxseed oil supplement which I believe is essentially the same thing.

I'm sure I sound like a crackhead.

I really wish I liked seafood. It's so healthy and good for you. The only meat I really eat at all is chicken. And that can get tiring. I do love sausage too, but that's not exactly healthy.

^ I like seafood somewhat. can't say I am ever anxious to eat it, and I don't enjoy the odor AT ALL. It has to be super fresh and, as far as me preparing it.... that would be interesting. I'm so sensitive to foul smells and seafood often smells horrendous. It's just that it is sooo good for you, I would love to be a little more relaxed about it.

I see people slurping up oysters, cracking crab legs, eating raw fish in sushi, and I just think... am I missing something? My daughter love love loves sushi and octopus, all kinds of weirdness. Good for her.

I don't get to eat sushi very often, but I love it. I can't eat seaweed (idk, some strange psychological reason. haha), so I have to stick with the classic kind, not the roll-type. I adore salmon. It's great with creamed peas, which are pretty good for you if you use 1%milk instead of cream.
