I'm kind of inspired by the favorite bass post to create a favorite drums one as well. Some of Fog's beats are pretty damn creative.
In Order (taking into account challenge + innovation +fun) and keeping it to a minimum of 5
1)NYC The chorus is probably the cleverest thing hes come up with
2)Take You On a Cruise
3)Obstacle 1
4)Length of Love (pretty darker + different take on the typical resurgence of dance drumming)
5)Precipitate played correctly is pretty spectacular too
***Obst 1 played correctly (ive seen so many short cuts from covers) is prob the hardest song wise
***played correctly, the instrumental breakdown of Say Hello to the Angels in the end is prob the hardest "section" of imo
***I gotta say that the way the drums were mixed in their pre TOBL songs was pretty amazing
***I dig the snare sound of Fog, especially especially especially in the new new vids Ive seen of PttF, Mammoth, HM. Very fat and reverbish
Have fun!

why don't you start a thread
"Favourite songs to play with instruments
drums, bass, keyboard, guitar, you choose =)"
coz i can see, all this kinds of threads all over the forum

dude theres only 4 different instruments in the band and thats liberally taking their keyboard parts into account,
If there are 3 or so diff threads of this where the musicians could chat about interpol on a musical level, let them do it. I will restate a stereotypical common complaint on message boards like these
"if only all the topics were this fixed on the music itself and not blah blah...you know how it goes"

I know the part in narc your talking about...
I dont believe he does it live though, from what ive seen.
Ok then what do you feel is the most challenging entire song to play then if not obs 1?
Antics was cake in challenge minus length of love kinda and aside from stella i'd have no clue as to what could be harder than obs 1 from tobl

I forgot to add, sam was a punk drummer growing up...say if he was the age of Dan and Paul, hed be currently sporting a colored mohawk etc from the pics Ive seen......and as that relates to his drumming
its really rare at least in the mainstream that someone with such punk upbringings endorses jazzy paiste cymbals like signatures, which is pretty sweet, he must've started on rudes Id assume.
One critique I have of him is I wish hed' improv a tad more on stage during the more looser parts of the songs and play a bit looser as well on the structured parts. Its kind of an extreme specifically with him to follow every single stick hit exactly the way it was on the CD. So imo he plays a bit too rigid.

“Signatures” are not all for jazz that left to paiste's "traditionals" series. I use paiste signature and my power crash is quite heavy and quite loud. Sam did start on rudes, I read an article on the paiste website and within the article he stated that he fell in love with paiste rudes. Sorry I'm a paiste addict.
I always end up breaking into evil, just because it is really fun. "Take you a cruise" is probably his most difficult it took me a while to figure what he was doing (the begining part anyway) cause his lands on and off 2 and 4. All his work is good I can’t pick. and I agree with your statement about his rigidity, amazing drummer, but it looks like he needs to loosen up a bit.

Ohh yeah I forgot about trads, durh.
Awhile back in choosing a jazz ride I was thinking of picking up a trad light ride 18 for a bit of time but settled on a 20 flat signature which they dont even make anymore for some reason (sold this tho in a desire to have an all K cymbal set). Reaaally buttery sound from what I remember.

Another thing that I gotta say about him....and this is coming from a drummer with little formal training..
I could almost guarantee Sam was self taught because he has probably one of the oddest stick techniques that ive ever seen. For those who don't really pay attention, check out the hand he plays the snare with and notice how his entire forearm moves up and down with each hit. This isvery different. The downside is that its not the most efficient way (wrists) and well.. its like a lot of motion and effort expended for one hit which is not optimal, but he doesn't have anything speedy enough where hitting this way would hurt him, so it works out well.
