The Black Keys really kick ass. Their new album "Magic Potion" will be out September 12th and if you don't buy it or any of their previous albums you probably like big floppy cock. They are also doing a very extensive tour and will probably be making a stop near you. Saw them last year and they tear shit up. But don't just listen to me...Thom Yorke is pretty much in love with this band and Thom Yorke is the guy who made sure your smoke detectors were working properly so do him and yourself a favor and listen to this band.

oh yeah and they're also from good old Akron, Ohio which is basically a neighboring county to where I live. Rep that hometown love, nigguh.

Oh man, The Black Keys....
One of my favorite bands. I saw them in '02 when they were just starting off playing Kimbrough covers and "Heavy Soul." Magic Potion is a great album, but it is a change for them. Every song has a consistent feel/sound. It is a bit heavier and less bluesy. I prefer Chulahoma to this, but I still think Dan and Pat have done well.

Maybe I put that last a bit to strong. It's not a bad record, but the songs aren't as strong or fun as on the previous two records, although that may change with repeated spins. It's more rock than blues like 2morroland said. Maybe I just set the bar too high or something.

You didn't set it too high. In my opinion, Rubber Factory brought the Key's bar to an ultimate high. Chulahoma kept it there and Magic Potion just brings it down a bit. I love the guys for being a blues rock band, not just a rock band.

Saw them live for the first time this weekend.
Pat is a ferocious drummer and Dan is probably the most soulful guitarist I had ever seen. The post-show meet-up was a little awkward but Dan had a good time when I asked him to sign his guitar pick which I caught with my ear! Going to make blues rock with that thing for years!
They're great!

^^I'm excited about this. Although I wouldn't expect them to stretch too far and do something too different. I'm just excited I get to add more of their music to my collection.
So, what are everyone's thoughts on Dan's solo album? I've heard it but haven't bought it yet. It doesn't jump out at you like BK music but perhaps after a few more listens...
