I mostly forget the photographer's names if like photos. I do like some of my father's photos very much really. Especially his NYC photos from ten years ago.

Duane Michals is awesome. He typically works in sequences. Here's an interesting sequence he did called 'The Human Condition'

Blasphemy!
The photographer you are referring to is Henri Cartier-Bresson, and that photo is a horrendous photoshop job of an original beautiful image.
http://www.kaush.com/archives/images/Cartier-Bresson2.jpg
Here's a website of the Tête-à-Tête portraits he did. Images of Camus, Capote, Marilyn Monroe, Stravinsky, among others. He died a couple of years ago. I think there was a thread about him in the board of yesteryear.
------------------------------------------
I love so many photographers, I don't know where to start. The ParkeHarrison duo are one of my all time favorites. The Architects Brother is a brilliant body of work. You'll recognize these images as RuledByEnimity's past avatars. The Architect's Brother.
What I love most about it is the photographic process he uses. Photogravure is an antiquated process (light sensitive emulsion is placed on a metal plate, an engraving is made, and then you can print it on nearly any material), but can produce the most surreal and pristine images out there.
Joel Peter Witkin, is another photographer that has that surreal style I absolutely love. And to make his images seem timeless or placeless, he'll scratch his negatives, and then make the print through tissue paper, to make the image less sharp (but not out of focus). He also adds dyes and pigments to tint the print, and then covers it with beeswax. Don't ask me why, I guess he just likes how it looks. But by doing that you come out with images such as these:

What I appreciate most about photography is its ability to deceive. In this society we are bombarded by images throughout the day, to the point that images we see on television or in print seem to be truer or at least more pertinent then what we see through our own eyes in our day to day lives.
If you look at the history of photography, when it first originated, people were utterly amazed by photographs, to the point of being horrified by them. It was the ultimate deception for them. A scene or a person became an object they could hold in their hands, and it was just as realistic as the living thing itself! I think it was the awareness of the illusion, and its amazing ability to deceive that took the viewer off guard. But not even 200 hundred years later, we've become completely desensitized to this illusionistic, fragmenting quality of the photographic image. And the photograph is as true if not truer than the actual subject of the image.
So I like photographs that are thoroughly aware of their illusion. An image elegantly contrived, depicting something I could never see if it wasn't for that photograph, affects me the most. But that's just me.
And sorry for the incredibly long post, but you asked for it ginger. :P

Is that HongKong??
I remember seeing those buildings on the plane....
When the old Hong Kong airport at was still in business planes landed into a canyon of buildings....it was so close to the runway that you could quite literally see into people's apartments...you could even look into their windows and see what television programs they were turned into...i saw people cooking their meals ..lol..impressive ..it felt like the plane was landing directly into one of those apartment blocks.
