so i recently looked into all the horrible stuff that makes people turn into vegetarians. keep in mind the only thing i'm giving up is meat, i'll still eat yogurt and fat free milk along with eggs (i'm actually considering giving up eggs).i wanted to know what i could eat. i mean, i know that tofu tastes like hot raw ass on a hot day but what other alternatives are there? i want things that will fill me up without having to gag each time i take a bite.

Congrats on deciding to go vegetarian! I'm not sure where you're from so I don't know exactly what to recommend.. but Yves products are all really good... as well as BOCA if you like veggie burgers..

Tofu is AWESOME if you know how to prepare it well.. just fry it in a pan and put lots of spices on it.. tastes really good... Tofu basically just takes the flavour of whatever it's cooked with.. so it's just a matter of being creative..

Lots of beans... they have lots of protein and are healthy...

Soy milk is always good... My favs are Silk chocolate and Silk Vanilla...

Soy ice cream is good too...

so many choices! www.peta.org has a lot of advice... as does www.veg.ca , www.vrg.org www.vegweb.com etc etc

You'll feel so much more healthy too :D

ummmm this isn't HEALTHY but...

you can still eat all the unhealthy fried shit you want, cheese pizza, lots of pasta, all the chocolate and dessert in the world....

my boyfriend is vegetarian and he still eats HORRIBLY. Being vegetarian doesn't mean you have to eat expensive stuff from whole foods, haha. you can be just as gluttonous as the rest of the world, worry not.

But why not take the opportunity to eat healthier while you're at it though right? ;)

Leguuuuuuuuuuumes!

And by the way, dairy is still pumped full of hormones from animals. Unless, you aren't worried about that.

If one isn't taking a daily multi-vitamin and eating lots of greens, thay can become anemic. Oh yeah, very healthy.
At least, that's what happened to me. I was living off of garlic mashed potatoes.

As long as you're careful about your diet, it's healthy... of course if one doesn't make sure they're getting enough vitamins and what not then it can be extremely unhealthy :)

nah i'm not, just the meat. it was funny the way my teacher talked about hot dogs. he said :

"let's see , there was a statement that talked about the percent of rat feces hot dogs may contain...........it isn't 0."

that was the cherry on top of the conversion. although i knew hot dogs were disgusting from the get go. thanks to all who are helping me. seems rough though. ahah i know all vegetarians aren't healthy.

Everyone's immune system is so different. It hasn't been until these past couple of years, that I have discovered that I have some food allergies. You just have to know what works for you. Or, you can even get tested. But, I can understand why one chooses to not eat meat. Besides animal right/moral issues, it can be more taxing on your digestive system. I could never give up fish, that is for sure.

There are many fantastic indian dishes for vegetarians.
also the thai cuisine offers good curries with tofu and vegetables.
and not to forget the falafel.
And you can eat pizza, pasta, etc. even french fries. veggie burgers are fine sometimes.
It gets harder if you really want to eat vegan.

I am eating vegetarian since a long time and earlier it was really hard to get some food outside besides salad.
but it is better these days and since I am living in a large city this problem does not excist anymore :)

Soup, like red pepper soup and mushroom soup.

Also fruit salads, especially with fresh pineapple.

Too late! eheh

I am a vegetarian but I hate tofu. There are still plenty of products to choose from beside meat. You can even go to the frozen section of your store and you will find all sort of soy fake sausages/burger/patties. Some of them are actually really good.

ive been a vegetarian since i was ten (almost seventeen now) and i dont like all those meat replacers very well.. they just bore me after a while. (falafel is nice though) make sure you have something with soy at least once a week. mixing these through a salad is also good:

i always have them around.. it tastes great with vegetables and rice too (add them when the vegetables are almost done)

good luck!
