Bon Iver
2/11/12 - Antwerp Lotto Arena

First time I saw him or them (because I think Bon Iver is a band?)live and I thought it was amazing. Not surprisingly the concert was sold out fast. Justin Vernon joked: "We've made 30 or so albums, I think we deserve to stand here", he genuinely seems overwhelmed by his success, thanking the audience 3 times for coming to the show. A lot of musicians on stage, they played beautiful versions of the songs including the details you hear on the albums. The emphasis was on the last album, the songs of the first album also got a 'heavier' treatment. For some people the intimacy of those earlier songs got lost this way, and maybe they have a point. I certainly would have liked to see an accoustic intermezzo or maybe encore, that would've been great. Not to say the versions they played were bad, not at all. Justin played a bit of experimental music and asked us if we would like it if the new album would sound like that? A joke of course... but they also played a cover of Björk so who knows.. :) Anyway a great evening again. Highlights: too many to mention. 'Holocene' was certainly one of them and of course 'Skinny Love'.

Other Lives this week. First saw them when they opened for Radiohead in April and really enjoyed hearing them again. They just celebrated their 10th year and are now heading east from Calif.
